What is CupcakeCamp Vancouver?
CupcakeCamp Vancouver is an event built on the ‘barcamp’ model, where people come together to share and eat cupcakes, and participate in cupcake tasting competitions! You don’t need to bake any cupcakes to participate, but there will be prizes awarded to the winners in the big cupcake competitions!
This event is not-for profit, and we will be donating all of the proceeds to the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre, an organization that provides a safe, supportive space for women and children in Vancouver’s downtown east side.
How much does it cost to participate?
CupcakeCamp Vancouver is free to all participants, however we do have a ‘suggested donation’ of $5 at the door, with all proceeds from the event going towards the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre.
Can I buy or sell cupcakes at the event?
Nope. CupcakeCamp is for people who want to bring cupcakes and eat them for free at the event.
Can I really attend if I don’t bring cupcakes?
Yes! While bringing cupcakes is encouraged we need Tasters to help us eat the cupcakes! Cupcake consumption is strictly voluntary.
Do I have to bake cupcakes or can I purchase cupcakes?
We need a large number of cupcakes so homemade or store bought are both accepted! (you can only enter the contests with homemade or home-decorated cupcakes, though!)
How do I sign up?
Tickets will be available at 12:00 PM on Sunday, June 21. You can sign up by securing a ticket, or by becoming a volunteer. If you become a volunteer, you’ll be guaranteed a spot on the guest list 🙂
Do we bake or decorate our cupcakes at the event?
No – your cupcakes should be ready to go at the event. However, feel free to organize your own baking get-togethers with friends before CupcakeCamp!
Will there be a Cupcake Competition?
Yes, however the competition is voluntary. When you register as a Baker just let us know which category you will be entering. A category listing will be made available soon! (hint: we’ll have categories like ‘best tasting’ and ‘best decorated’)
Where have CupcakeCamps already taken place?
People have organized CupcakeCamps in San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Toronto, Philadelphia and a number of other cities all across the world!
What is the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre?
“High levels of violence, homelessness, addictions and poverty characterize the Downtown Eastside community, and women and children are particularly vulnerable to exploitation, injustice and injury. Founded in 1978, DEWC is one of the few safe spaces within the Downtown Eastside exclusively for women and their children.” For more information, please visit their website at: http://dewc.ca
